Acer highlights sustainability as core value at 2022 next@acer press event

At this year’s “next@acer” press event, CEO Jason Chen spoke from a very green Aspire Park in Taoyuan, Taiwan on the essential nature of creating more sustainable products and supply chain.

“Since our last next@acer event, I believe many of you are making your own efforts to make a positive impact,” said Mr Chen.

“We have made progress to tackle plastic, forest, ocean pollution, making contributions to planet Earth by increasing the use of recycled materials, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainable packaging, and increasing the use of renewable energy.

“As a member of this global community, we have worked together with many of our partners to combine our strengths and to complement our efforts to create a bigger impact.

“But taking on this challenge alone won’t get us there. We need to work together. We want to keep striving for improvements, while reminding ourselves that everything we do and every decision we make is to empower our customers and our environment.

“Last May, we launched the Earthion platform, built around a mission for Acer to join hands with our partners and suppliers and push for sustainability.

“Earthion focuses on product design, production, energy consumption, logistics, packaging design, and recycling.”

Mr Chen said his company’s aim was to find synergy with all stakeholders and create sustainable solutions.

He explained that “Choosing green is only a possibility when we make green products affordable,” adding, “We are creating value and creating business through ESG.”

Mr Chen thanked all the partners in the Earthion initiative, saying innovative solutions have been created, but that much more remains to be done.

He said “If we all extend our role in society together, we can create a greater impact for the future of our world.”

At the 2022 media event, Acer PC spokesman Michael Lee outlined the new, expanded Vero product line for the brand, giving people more access to “sustainable” products.

The new Vero laptops and AIO desktop, monitors, projector and peripherals use a percentage of PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic, OBP (Ocean-bound Plastic) and recyclable packaging. The PCs are easy to disassemble, simplifying the process of repairs or upgrades and extending their lifespan.

“We’re pleased to continue to deliver on our Earthion mission to tackle environmental issues with novel solutions and greener products by rounding out our Vero line,” said Jerry Kao, Co-COO, Acer. “In addition to new PC and monitor models, our Vero mix now extends to peripherals and projectors to offer a wider breadth of sustainably-designed products that decrease waste and carbon output without compromising performance.”

“Following Intel’s recent commitments to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, we’re encouraged by the collective efforts across the technology ecosystem to build a future of sustainable PCs,” said Josh Newman, VP and GM of Mobile Innovation for Intel’s Client Computing Group. “Through close collaboration with Acer, we’re building thoughtful yet powerful devices like the newest Vero line powered by 12th Gen Intel Core processors.”

At the next@acer press conference, numerous other products were launched, including a new TravelMate P4, TravelMate Spin P4, Premium Convertible Notebook, Swift 3 OLED laptop, new ConceptD Laptops and Desktops with OLED displays, and an expanded Stereoscopic 3D Lineup with SpatialLabs View Series displays.
