Lenovo unveils world’s lightest 14-inch OLED laptop

Chinese computing manufacturer Lenovo has unveiled three new consumer PCs, including what the company claims is the world’s lightest 14-inch OLED laptop, weighing just 1.1kg. The announcements were made at the company’s Tech World 2021 online conference, which took place on 8 September.

Described as “computing for the new normal” by Lenovo, the new machines, which will run on the brand-new Microsoft Windows 11, are designed to be “faster, more mobile, more portable and more powerful than the competition”, in order to meet consumers’ changing expectations.

“Consumers gaming or collaborating virtually from home stand to benefit most from the latest Windows 11 PCs with next-gen hardware and software inside”, a press release from Lenovo said.

The laptop said to be the world’s lightest is the 14-inch OLED laptop model – the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon.  The new 16-inch ultra-slim Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro is the big brother, aimed at creatives. Both laptops will be among the first to include the powerful next-gen Windows 11 operating system (OS).

The 14-inch model boasts a sharp OLED display. It is available in cloud grey and made from ultra-portable carbon fibre and magnesium alloy for extraordinary lightness and strength. It measures 14.9mm at its thinnest point and weighs just 1.1kg, placing it in its own category of lightest overall laptops in the industry, i.e. devices weighing at or just above 1kg, the company said.

The laptop has an integrated Dolby Atmos speaker system for an immersive sound experience, while the drilled holes of two of the four front-facing speakers also help serve as thermal air intake zones for the laptop’s integrated turbo fan.

With an OLED panel by Samsung Display that’s optimised on four sides by narrow bezels, it mounts a 14-inch QHD+ display designed for ultra-vivid picture quality with Dolby Vision, and a VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification for enhanced video quality reproduction in a 16:10 display format for less scrolling and factory calibrated to Delta E <2 for accurate performance at 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut vibrancy.

It also features Lenovo Q-Control (simply use Fn+Q), which allows users to choose the ideal fan setting to maximize system performance and extend battery life.
