Information and speculation about future smartphones has been revealed, with the next generation from Samsung and OnePlus set to drop as early as February

The future smartphones of 2023 are on the horizon with major releases expected from Apple, Samsung, Google and OnePlus. Samsung and Oneplus will be among the first to launch new phones in February. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 is set to drop on February 1 shortly followed by the OnePlus 11 5G with its global launch on February 7.

The latest Galaxy smartphone could have Samsung’s new 200-megapixel camera sensor. While Apple is expected to release the iPhone 15 lineup in September, possibly with a pioneering USB-C charger.

While it is difficult to predict the exact details for 2023, the IFA Newsroom lists the new phones we are likely to see based on previous launch cycles and reports.

Apple iPhone 15

Apple usually launches its latest iPhone range in September, and there is no reason to expect anything different from its future smartphone. Routine changes such as a new processor and camera upgrades are likely. While many also believe the handsets will have USB-C charging, after the recent mandate from the European Union for all new phones sold in the bloc to support USB-C by 2024. Apple said it would comply with these rules, but the tech giant is yet to confirm whether this will be a regional or a global update and when it will be applied.

Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung’s latest camera technology is rumoured to feature in its future smartphone – the Galaxy S23 Ultra – set to launch on February. The South Korean tech giant announced its new image sensor this month, which is capable of taking 200-megapixel photos. This would be a huge jump from the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108-megapixel main sensor.

Samsung could also tweak its design for the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus, potentially ditching the camera bump and making it more similar to the Ultra model. The new generation is also likely to have Qualcomm’s latest mobile chip, based on previous launches.

Google Pixel 7A

The Pixel 7A could prove cheaper than its older sibling, the Pixel 7, if Google keeps up its tradition. Not much is known about the upcoming release, but reports suggest it could include significant upgrades. These could include wireless charging and a higher refresh rate of 90Hz for its screen.

OnePlus 11 5G

Already available in China, the latest ‘future smartphone’ from OnePlus is set to launch worldwide on February 7. The OnePlus 11 5G will feature 100-watt fast charging and a 6.7 inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to the company’s China website. It will also benefit from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a 50-megapixel main camera, 48-megapixel ultrawide camera and 32-megapixel telephoto camera, it adds.
