Power shift: Key developments in consumer electronics and electrical appliances

In Germany, the consumer electronics segment increased in the first half of 2022, according to the HEMIX Home Electronics Market Index. The HEMIX shows the quarterly market development in Germany based on quantity and value and is compiled by gfu in cooperation with Gfk.

Consumer electronics segment increases

With a turnover of more than €14.2bn, the consumer electronics segment increased by 1.8% in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year. That said, the sector developed differently. Telecommunications products for private use increased by 14.8%, reaching almost €7bn in sales. Meanwhile privately used IT products, as well as consumer electronics, did not fare as well with the latter recording a sales decrease of 4.2% to less than €3.7bn.

In the area of ​​consumer electronics, sales of TVs in Germany amounted to approximately €1.5 billion in the first half of 2022. This was a decrease of 9.6% from 2021. There were approximately 2.2 million TV sets sold in the first half of 2022. In contrast, the average price of all TV sets sold rose by 8.7% to €688. The Audio Home Systems and Loudspeaker Boxes product groups showed growth. With sales of €735 million (an increase of 14%), the audio/video accessories product line once again recorded an increase.

Large electrical appliances lead the way in sales

The two electrical household appliance segments again showed different trends in the first half of 2022. Large electrical appliances achieved an 8.3% increase in sales to €5.2bn. Small electrical appliances, on the other hand, recorded a decline of 4.8% to just under €3.2bn.
