New CEO named for BSH

Dr Matthias Metz, currently with the Zeiss Group, will take on the role of CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management of BSH from October 1, 2022.

The role is currently held on an interim basis by BSH CFO Dr Gerhard Dambach, following the announcement in April by the then group CEO and Chairwoman, Carla Kriwet, that she would be leaving the company for personal reasons. Her departure on April 30, 2022, was, she said, in order to continue her professional career outside the Bosch Group.

Metz will be responsible for the global business of the home appliance manufacturer with more than 62,000 employees and a global production network of 40 factories worldwide.

Dr Christian Fischer, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BSH, said: “Matthias Metz is an experienced manager and brings along a deep understanding for consumer business and technological products. We are delighted to be appointing him as CEO to the BSH Board of Management.”

Metz is currently leading the Consumer Markets Segment at Zeiss Group and brings many years of international expertise in branded consumer business to BSH. He has been a member of the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss AG and CEO of the Consumer Markets Segment since 2015 and is also responsible for the Zeiss sales and service companies in Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa and Latin America.

Additionally, he is also CEO & President of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss Vision International GmbH, Aalen.

Prior to his professional career with Zeiss Group, Metz held various management positions in other consumer goods companies and worked in Shanghai, China, among other places.

“I am very delighted to take on the responsibility for BSH. I am personally convinced that home appliances and supplementary digital solutions and services from BSH make an important contribution to improving the quality of life of consumers around the world,” said Metz.

“We are excited to welcome Matthias Metz at BSH and in the Board of Management and are looking forward to shape the success of our company together in the future”, stated BSH interim CEO and CFO Gerhard Dambach.

BSH “spreading its wings”

The new leadership comes at a time when the group is actively working on further reinforcing its global presence. For example, the company has announced the creation of a “showcase” canter in Washington DC.

The company’s immersive Experience & Design Center format will arrive in Washington DC by early 2023, featuring the latest innovations from renowned home appliance brands Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau. The new 7,125-square-foot BSH location will be housed on the ground floor of 950 New York Avenue within the CityCenterDC complex. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the latest design trends and smart home solutions, participate in interactive cooking sessions, and more.

“Washington DC.is an important market for BSH and we are excited to more directly engage with our customers in the area at the BSH Experience & Design Center,” said Thomas Staebler, Head of Experience and Design Centers, North America, for BSH Home Appliances. “Whether the need is compact appliances for multi-family residences that don’t sacrifice performance or design, or a full suite of appliances that offer the latest in smart home solutions for every lifestyle, visitors to our newest BSH location will have an opportunity to find the perfect fit for their homes.”

BSH currently has Experience & Design Centers located in Irvine, Calif., New York City, Chicago, Montreal and Toronto, along with a location scheduled to open in Miami this year.
