The American tech giant recently came out with its latest iPhone smartphones, available this month, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which boast a number of new state-of-the-art features as well as more colour choices.

“The extraordinary battery life, lightweight design, pro-level camera and video features, ground-breaking safety capabilities like Emergency SOS via satellite, and all iOS 16 has to offer make iPhone 14 a great option for anyone in the market for a new iPhone,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Longest battery life ever

According to the company, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus provide the longest battery life of any iPhone ever. In addition, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have an updated internal design, the company says, including 5-core GPU to enable faster speeds and improve the phones’ sustained performance, making them ideal for heavy workloads and high-powered gaming.

Design

The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch2 iPhone 14 Plus, which are available in a new yellow colour option, feature a durable water- and dust-resistant aluminium design with a Ceramic Shield front cover the phone maker says is tougher than any other smartphone glass.

Both phones include Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology that supports 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness, along with support for Dolby Vision.

Powerful dual cameras

Both models include a dual-camera system which features a new main camera with a larger sensor, as well as an Ultra-Wide camera to capture unique perspectives. Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus include the new front TrueDepth camera that automatically focuses on multiple subjects at different distances to allow for sharper close-ups and group selfies. Moreover, the larger aperture captures brighter colour and finer detail in lower light, Apple claims.

The iPhone 14 line-up also introduces a Photonic Engine that improves mid- to low-light performance for photos across all cameras compared to the previous generation: up to 2x on the TrueDepth and Ultra-Wide cameras, and 2.5x on the new Main camera.

Ground-breaking safety options

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come equipped with innovative safety capabilities including Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection.

Through a combination of custom-designed components and integrated software, Emergency SOS via satellite allows users to message emergency services when cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are not available. Additionally, users can inform friends and family of their whereabouts through the Find My app and share their location via satellite.

The other new safety option on the new iPhone 14 phones, Crash Detection, can detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services if a user is unconscious or unable to reach their smartphone. Apple says it designed motion algorithms and combined real-world driving and crash record data to create this function.

iOS 16

The new iPhone 14s also provide the advantages of iOS 16 with its update to Lock Screen, powerful Focus, and Live Activities function, which helps users follow things in real time right from the Lock Screen. With iOS 16 Messages, users can edit a message, undo send, and mark conversations as unread. Safari has also become safer with passkeys, a next-generation credential. Live Text adds the ability to interact with text in video and translate text. Users can also tap and hold on the subject of an image to lift it from the background and place it in apps. iCloud Shared Photo Library lets users share photos with up to six family members.
